Michele Lee Will Show How to Succeed in Broadway's Wicked

Two-time Tony Award nominee Michele Lee, who co-starred as Rosemary in the movie version of How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, is returning to Broadway July 5 as Madame Morrible in the cast of Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre.

Lee earned her Tony nominations playing the lead in the 1974 musical Seesaw and in the 2000 comedy The Tale of the Allergist's Wife. She made her Broadway debut in 1960's Vintage '60 and was a replacement Rosemary Pilkington in the Broadway production of How To Succeed before being cast in the role for the film.

Also joining the cast will be Fred Applegate, recently on Broadway in The Last Ship, as the Wizard of Oz. His first day will be June 29.

Lee appeared earlier this month in a club show, “Nobody Does it Like Me: The Music of Cy Coleman” at 54 Below in New York.

She has extensive TV credits, notably her Emmy-nominated role starring as Karen McKenzie for all 14 seasons of CBS’S “Knots Landing.” She played Diana Devereaux in a TV adaptation of the Broadway musical Of Thee I Sing with Carroll O'Connor.

Film credits include Disney's "The Love Bug," Carl Reiner’s "The Comic" with Dick Van Dyke, and "Along Came Polly" with Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster. For more information, visit Wickedthemusical.com. Wicked plays at the Gershwin Theatre, 222 West 51st Street, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue.

Wicked, the Wizard Of Oz prequel that thumbed its nose at chin-scratching critics when it opened in 2003 and has gone on to be one of the biggest Broadway blockbusters of all time, is bringing in the veterans for the summer season. Michele Lee, a two-time Tony and Emmy nominee best known for her performance as Karen Mackenzie on CBS’ Knots Landing, will take over the part of Madame Morrible. She recently performed her show Nobody Does It Like Me: The Music Of Cy Coleman at 54 Below, the popular Broadway after-hours haunt. On Broadway she’s best known for her performances in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying and Seesaw. She begins on July 5.
